What it means to be a Commonwealth Athlete
Two years to Birmingham 2022

Today marks two years until the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

During this period of uncertainty, we can look forward to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with hope as we begin to train, prepare and focus on the road ahead.

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will be the first ever international multi-sport event to have more medal events for women than men. The para programme will be the biggest in history. Birmingham itself is home to 107 nationalities and a place where 100 languages are spoken.

These games will be truly global experience and a powerful platform for sport to create real social change. Commonwealth Athletes have the opportunity to be inspirational leaders and agents of change, ambassadors for integrity, respect and non-discrimination. The athlete voice, and athlete activism has the power to humanise sport.

While many of us are focused on Tokyo 2020, the Commonwealth Games are not far behind.

Let us look forward to Birmingham 2022 where the New Zealand Team will once again come together to inspire pride and excellence in all New Zealanders, and where we can play our role in building a more peaceful world.

We look forward to working with you in the build up to the Games and helping you to achieve your goals at Birmingham 2022

We are the New Zealand Team
