This weekend one of central Londons most beautiful spots, Hyde Park, plays host to the ITU Triathlon World Championships. As with all of the London test events, the triathlon will give competitors the chance to try out the proposed 2012 Olympic course, and give us an insight into how our athletes will perform next year. The race route this year will, for the first time, feature a trip out of Hyde Park. Although the course will leave the park, every effort has been made to make the course and venue as compact as possible. The elite triathletes will pass through the stadium-like finish arena 12 times making sure the fans get a taste of all of drama and energy of this thrilling event. New Zealand Olympic Chef de Mission, Dave Currie, will be at the Triathlon test event as part of his UK visit. Hell be there seeing how the venues function and will be getting an invaluable look at how systems and processes will work at the Olympic Games next year. Currie will also be joining New Zealand athletes and support teams at the Junior World Rowing Championships on the Olympic Course at Eton Dorney, as well as the Weymouth and Portland International Regatta 2011, as our athletes are put to the test against the best in the world. New Zealand triathletes who will compete in this test event this weekend include: Men: Bevan Docherty (Taupo) World Ranking: 20 Ryan Sissons (Auckland) 24 Clark Ellice (New Plymouth) 38 James Elvery (Auckland) 40 Kris Gemmell (Palmerston North) 45 Tony Dodds (Wanaka) 74 Women Andrea Hewitt (Christchurch) World Ranking: 3 Kate McIlroy (Wellington) 14 Nicky Samuels (Wanaka) 30 Debbie Tanner (Auckland) 33
