The London Olympic Games Organising Committee (LOCOG) has announced an innovative ticketing system that guarantees event access to athlete friends and family.

The new system makes it easier for athletes to have the right people in the stands to support them as they compete. More than 70,000 tickets are to be held back from general distribution.

LOCOG's athlete purchase ticket programme will be activated in 2012. Tickets will be offered to athletes before and during the Games, once the full list of competing athletes participating in each session has been finalised.

Barry Maister, Secretary General of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, says the ticketing service is a significant step forward.  We are thrilled that London can now guarantee that athletes can share a once in a lifetime experience with some of their biggest supporters their families and friends.

Were expecting to welcome very high numbers of Kiwi supporters to the London Olympic Games and the exciting commitment from the London organisers will make will make a real difference to athletes and their supporters.

A minimum of two tickets per event will be allocated to athletes competing in most events. Athletics and swimming heat allocations will be restricted to one ticket per session. This allocation will increase to a minimum of two tickets as competition progresses.

At previous games athlete friends and families have purchased tickets from their countrys National Olympic Committee general allocation.

Olympic Games tickets and travel packages will go on sale to the public in March 2011 through New Zealand Olympic Committee ticket and travel partners Cartan Global, Harvey World Travel and United Travel.

A total of 8.8 million tickets will be available for the Olympic Games and 75% go on sale as general admission in March. 90% of the tickets will be priced under GBP100 and more than 2.5 million will be priced under GBP20.

Members of the public wishing to register their interest in traveling to London for the 2012 Olympic Games should contact the New Zealand Olympic Committee via email at Margaret@olympic.org.nz.
