Moss Burmester led a successful outing for New Zealand swimmers at the pool this morning.

Burmester, looking to atone for his disappointing result in his specialty event, the 200m butterfly, qualified ninth for the semi-finals of the 100m butterfly, the race in which he won a Commonwealth Games bronze medal four years ago in Melbourne. His time today was 54.69s.

Gareth Kean, fresh from his silver medal yesterday in the 200m backstroke, was on deck in the 100m backstroke and swam 55.85s to ease into the semi-finals in eighth position. Team-mate Daniel Bell was even more impressive in the same event. His 55.05s qualified him in second place.

In the 50m womens freestyle, Hayley Palmer qualified fourth for the semi-finals and Amaka Gessler ninth.

Glenn Snyders, trying to bounce back from his disappointing showing in the 100m breaststroke final, qualified fastest for the semi-finals of the 50m breaststroke with a time of 28.15s.

And New Zealander Emily Thomas swam well in the womens 50m backstroke, in which she was sixth fastest qualifier for the semi-finals.
