Six cities have their bids confirmed to host the 2020 Olympics The six cities to bid for the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics have been now been confirmed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Bidding to host the Olympic Games in 2020 will be Baku, Doha, Istanbul, Madrid, Rome and Tokyo. A two year campaign will now begin for the bidding cities before the host city is chosen at the Buenos Aires IOC session in 2013. The first phase of Candidature Acceptance Procedure will focus on a technical review of the citys ability to host the Games while the second phase of Candidature Procedure means cities will be submitting their Candidature File of an in depth look at their Olympic project. This will also be subject to a visit by the IOC Evaluation Committee. National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will have until February 5, 2012 to submit their phase one application which includes a questionnaire they have to fill out and the IOC Executive Board will then decide in May who will go through to phase two. Madrid, Baku and Doha have bid to host again after they all missed out on hosting for 2016 which went to Rio de Janeiro. Madrid also had made it to the final three for hosting for 2012 which went to London and made it to the final two for 2016. Istanbul also missed out on their bid for 2012 while Tokyo and Rome are the only cities amongst the bidders to have previously hosted the games. Tokyo hosted in 1964 and Rome in 1960. Dohas bid is likely to be dependent on their persuasion to the IOC to host the Games outside the usual time and instead between September 20 and October 20 to avoid the hottest period they would experience during that time in Qatar. The first opportunity the six bidders will have to meet each other will be on November 3-4 when the IOC will hold an information seminar at its headquarters in Lausanne.
