New Zealanders Nadine Stanton and Natalie Rooney went desperately close to winning medals in the womens singles trap shooting event today.

Englishwoman Anita North won well with 93 points, followed by Shona Marshall of Scotland with 91.

However it seemed as if the experienced Stanton was set for the bronze when she lined up her last shot. Surprisingly, she faltered, and finished with 87 points, which allowed Namibian Gaby Ahrens to sneak through for third with 88 points.

Rooney, from Waimate, finished in fifth place with 85 points.
