The Hyeres Olympic Week is one of the major regattas in the International Olympic Sailing Circuit and is the fourth of seven regattas in the 2011-12 ISAF Sailing World Cup series. This leg of the Sailing World Cup series started in France on Sunday 22 April, and runs for six days with medal races with the prize-giving planned for Friday 27 April. After the second day of racing at the 2012 Heyers Olympic Week, the NZL Sailing Teams top Laser Sailors are at the front of the fleet. Andrew Murdoch, the NZL Sailing Teams Olympic representative in the Laser is being led by team mate Andy Maloney at the Hyeres World Cup Event 2012. Maloney is leading the competitive Laser fleet after these first four races. He has won two races and he sits just one point ahead of reigning World Champion Tom Slingsby of Australia. Murdoch is only one point further behind of that in fourth place after winning the first race of today. The top seven boats are just five points apart, and Sam Meech currently sits in seventh place. In the Finn class, Dan Slater is on pace and is currently in third place overall. He won the first race, as he now has a five point buffer on top of Australias Brendan Casey in who is placed fourth. The 49ers had to make up on lost ground from the last race due to extreme winds, and sailed four races today. Peter Burling and Blair Tuke won the first race, however they had one bad race which dropped down their standings and are now ranked 11th.
