On 11 August 2011 the nation’s business leaders will again have the opportunity to engage with the nation’s decision makers and high profile Olympic and Commonwealth athletes at the second Prime Minister’s Olympic Gala Dinner.
The inaugural Prime Minister’s Olympic Gala was exceptionally successful, with 270 tickets sold and a total of $130,000 raised to help the New Zealand Olympic Committee send teams to Olympic and Commonwealth Games and to promote the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. Among other things, this significant contribution has helped launch the exciting ASB Olympic Schools product which creates sporting opportunities and promotes the Olympic values to young New Zealanders.
This year’s Prime Minister’s Olympic Gala Dinner will once more raise funds for the important work of the New Zealand Olympic Committee. As an independent, not for profit organisation the donations of our benefactors and members of the New Zealand business community are vital.
As a nation we have been saddened by the tragedy of the Canterbury Earthquake, but we have also been incredibly proud of the people of Christchurch and their capacity to inspire each other to rebuild and recover. At this year’s Prime Minister’s Olympic Gala Dinner an exclusive London Olympic Games package will be auctioned, with all proceeds dedicated to the support of the high performance athletes based in Christchurch.
This year’s Prime Minister’s Olympic Gala Dinner will be particularly special. With the London Olympic Games just over a year away we’ll be taking the opportunity to share our pride in our athletes, our nation and our place in the world. The Olympic Games are an opportunity for all New Zealanders to be proud and this year’s event will be an important milestone on the road to London.
