Richie Patterson struggled to find his best form in the 85kg weightlifting competition today.

The 33-year-old finished sixth in the B section of his competition, with the leading competitors to lift later in the day.

Patterson achieved a snatch of 149kg. He got 145, missed at 149, then succeeded with it. In the clean and jerk he got 181, missed at 186 and pushed up to 187 but missed that too.

The Aucklander, a veteran of the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, has totalled 343kg, so to manage just 300kg was a little disappointing.
