Day one at the PyeongChang 2018 Games got off to a fantastic start for the New Zealand team with Carlos Garcia Knight qualifying second in his snowboard slopestyle heat and making it through to finals. His family and several team mates were in the crowd cheering him on and sharing in his proud moment.

“There’s a really positive vibe back in the village,” reports Chef de Mission Peter Wardell. “Carlos’ result certainly wasn’t unexpected, he set his goal and got on and achieved it. After the disappointment of Tiarn’s injury, it’s great to have the cloud lifted by Carlos’ result today, everyone’s really pumped and can’t wait to get in to action.”

Carlos will compete in men’s slopestyle finals at 2pm NZT with Zoi Sadowski-Synnott competing in the women’s snowboard slopestyle qualifying heat at 5.30 NZT.

We’ll also get a taste of the action on ice with speed skater Peter Michael racing in the 5000m at 8pm.
