The New Zealand Sevens Mens team have awoken any dormant sevens fans with a nail-biting win over South Africas Blitzboks 24-21 in Wellington this evening.

SKY Sport Commentators Scotty Stevenson, Willie Lose and Karl Tenana give their thoughts on the excitement and anticipation leading into the game of sevens being at the Olympic Games for the first time come Rio 2016.

Scotty Stevenson

We have seen the sevens game expand so much over the last decade but there is no doubt that the sport's inclusion in Rio has added an extra dimension. The players and the teams look hungrier, more focused and more dedicated than ever. All of them are desperate for a shot at Olympic glory, and a piece of history.

To think the sport will be seen by so many new fans is also exciting - a chance for sevens to become truly global in its reach.

Willie Lose

Sevens is a test of strength and character which requires intense motivation to succeed. In that respect it is a perfect fit for the Olympic Games - a sport that encompasses so many of the Olympic ideals.

I think everyone involved in the international game is dreaming the same dream: standing atop the dais with a gold medal around the neck. As a longtime broadcaster of the sport, I can't wait to see it played in Rio.

Karl Tenana

Over the last few seasons we have seen the emergence of sevens programmes in nations all over the world, all with the Olympic Games in mind.

The game has become more competitive, more professional and more exhilarating than ever, and that comes down to having something so special to aim for.

I think back to my own playing days and the inclusion of sevens at the Commonwealth Games. It was a new goal, a chance to represent our country as part of a bigger New Zealand team and everything about those campaigns was special.

To think now that these players will have a chance to represent New Zealand at Sevens in an Olympic Games is unbelievable. I know just how much it will mean to them to be a part of that experience.
