On 7 July the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay travelled 145 miles through 14 communities and was carried by 117 Torchbearers on its journey from Chelmsford to Cambridge. The Torch Relay started from the Ruskin University forecourt where the first Torchbearer of the day was Moesha Howard, 15, from Chelmsford. 20-year-old Zachary Franklin, from Nottingham carried the Flame at Lee Valley White Water Centre, the venue for Canoe Slalom at London 2012. Alysia McIntyre, 21, from Stowmarket carried the Flame into the Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre and around the Athletics track. Jamie Oliver carried the Flame in Newport, Essex. He was nominated for inspiring people to spend more time enjoying being in the kitchen and even start growing their own food. Iwan Thomas the current 400m Record Holder and European & Commonwealth Champion and Olympic Silver Medallist carried the Flame on to the stage at the Evening Celebration.
