Olympic celebrations kicked off across New Zealand this week with 85 Schools involved nationwide and 13 Olympic pin presentations made to New Zealand Olympians.

Up to 20,000 young New Zealanders will explore the Olympic values in discussions and activities provided by the New Zealand Olympic Committee. Resources have been provided to schools to stimulate discussion, encourage physical activity and to recognise the Olympic Values in action.

A number of these schools will also have a visit from an Olympian or a New Zealand Olympic Ambassador. The goal of the visits is for our Olympians to inspire young New Zealanders with their unique Olympic Stories and to promote excellence, friendship and respect.

Meanwhile, 114 New Zealand Olympians are gathering across the country with four Olympian functions scheduled in Auckland, Cambridge, Wellington and Dunedin. As well as a great opportunity to catch up with fellow Olympians, the functions will provide an opportunity for several of the Olympic guests to be presented with their official uniquely numbered New Zealand Olympian pin.

In 2016 Olympic Day will be celebrated on June 23rd. We look forward to connecting more schools with Olympians and celebrating the achievements of all our New Zealand Olympians, both young and old as we work towards next years Rio Olympic Games.
