New Zealand Olympic Committee Welcomes Changes in High Performance Sport The New Zealand Olympic Committee welcomes steps taken towards the establishment of a new high performance sport entity for New Zealand, announced today by the Minister for Sport and Recreation. The New Zealand Olympic Committee will have strong links with the new entity and Secretary General Kereyn Smith is a member of the working group tasked with shaping the new environment. The new entity has the potential to deliver strong results for New Zealand and we're delighted to be part of the future of high performance sport, she said. We will represent the needs of sport and athletes as we work with SPARC, the Academies of Sport and Government to jointly facilitate greater sporting success on the worlds stage. "We are aware that there are both opportunities and challenges ahead and we will work hard to address all matters." The New Zealand Olympic Committee will invite National Sporting Organisations to discuss the changes to the high performance environment at the New Zealand Olympic Committee General Assembly on May 11 in Wellington. The New Zealand Olympic Committee will also draw on international connections to research high performance best practice. Smith heads to the United Kingdom next week to meet with the British, American and German Olympic Committees.
