NZOC board members announced as part of new high performance sport board. The board for High Performance Sport New Zealand has now been announced, by Minister of Sport and Recreation Murray McCully, which includes New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) member Simon Wickham and President Mike Stanley. The first Chairman for the new unit is SPARCs current Chairman, Paul Collins. He will head the board that includes NZOC members Stanley and Wickham, along with three sitting members from the SPARC board: Katie Sadleir, Don Mackinnon and Bill Birnie; NZ Academy of Sport nominee Peter Cox (South Island); two independent members, Mark Weldon and Hamish Carter and SPARC CEO Peter Miskimmin as an ex-officio member. High Performance Sport New Zealand has emerged from the uniting of SPARC and the two New Zealand Academies of Sport and will work with the private sector to create world- class training facilities and develop high performance athletes in New Zealand with an annual spend of $60 million. This is a significant announcement for high performance sport in New Zealand, as this new entity will focus on building a culture which pursues excellence and allows athletes to focus on performance rather than funding, said Mr McCully. A team has been working on a new design for High Performance Sport after the agreement of a merge between SPARC and the two New Zealand Academies of Sport earlier this year. Chairman Paul Collins has said that the NZOC, sports organisations, coaches and athletes have been a helpful part in creating the new design and transition plan.
