The London 2012 Olympic Games is just 400 days away, and New Zealand Olympic Committee representatives have recently visited London to see how progress is going. Chef de Mission Dave Currie, alongside several other NZOC representatives, met with LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games) and visited Games venues and the athletes village. The main objective of the visit was to assess the preparations for the Games and ensure there would be no big surprises for athletes. Dave Currie says London is bubbling with energy, and his time in London has left him satisfied the Games will be well organised and completed on schedule. Weve got no concerns of it being completed on time. There is now a high level of comfort in the level of preparedness. The Games venues themselves have also impressed the NZOC with their design and fast rate of completion, and the athletes accommodation inspired confidence. From a venues and village perspective, I think it will be a very positive experience for athletes. Spectators going to the Games will be met with upgraded transport systems, but are still recommended to plan their transport well ahead of time. This visit is the first of three, with the next trip approaching in August. NZOC representatives will measure progress since their first visit, as well as attending test events such as sailing and the triathlon. 200 New Zealand athletes will be making us proud at the London Olympic Games, which will run from 27 July to 12 August 2012.
