The global COVID-19 situation continues to be front of mind for most New Zealanders, and we know this is affecting you, our athletes and team members.
As the New Zealand Team, we have always prided ourselves on resilience, our determination and our ability to cope with uncertainty. These values are constantly demonstrated by our athletes and they’re traits which will serve us well at this time. We must look to anchor ourselves with what we know and make sure the right balance of our attention is on our performance goals.
Acknowledging these unprecedented circumstances, the IOC has confirmed the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games until 2021.This decision was based on the principles of protecting the health of all participants and safeguarding athletes and sports. Here at the New Zealand Olympic Committee we remain focused on preparing for a safe, secure and successful Olympic Games, whenever they occur. Athlete health and well-being is our priority. We do know we’ll need to adapt and, like all New Zealanders, we’re up for that challenge.
We will keep supporting you and keep athletes and team members updated as the situation unfolds.
We are of course asking all New Zealand Team members to follow New Zealand Government advice here, and remember to check in with the New Zealand Team newsletters and the latest advice from HPSNZ (www.hpsnz.org.nz)
