New Zealanders have successfully received approximately 3,000 tickets during the first general public ticket allocation for upcoming London Olympic Games. Requests for Athletics, Rowing and Equestrian were particularly successful with about 80% of all requests for these key sports being confirmed. Christchurch-based sports fan Paul Coughlan is heading to the Olympic Games for his 40th birthday. I cant wait to get to London to cheer on our athletes, he said on being told his athletics, rowing, kayak and triathlon tickets had been confirmed. The mens 1500m final is going to be a highlight. On average, New Zealanders received approximately half of the tickets they ordered during this first public phase and are eligible to order additional tickets during Phase II of the ticketing process. New Zealand Olympic Committee Commercial Director Terry Daly says this is a strong first round result. The Olympic ticketing process is extensive, he said. While not all customers received everything they requested in the first instance, we believe that we can work towards finding solutions for the majority of New Zealanders over the months leading up to the Games. New Zealand received minimal tickets for prime events such as Ceremonies, Gymnastics, Swimming and Track Cycling and customers are urged to continue waitlisting their orders for these events or purchase tickets for other categories or events. We appreciate that for some New Zealanders, their initial ticket allocation may have been disappointing. Wed like to ask customers to be patient and, where possible, revise their orders, said Daly. By upgrading to a higher category and requesting unavailable tickets to be waitlisted we believe we can fulfill many more orders. We will be working with our Authorized Ticket Reseller, Cartan Tours, to secure as many additional tickets as possible from LOCOG. Family tickets are also available for the first time. Family tickets mean that each athlete is guaranteed supporters of their choice in the stands as they make New Zealand proud, said Daly. The uncertainty parents faced in the past has been eliminated. Athletes are invited to nominate two family members or friends to receive guaranteed tickets to each session. Athletes receive two family tickets per session with the exception of athletes competing in swimming preliminaries who receive one ticket. Official details of this program will be announced later by LOCOG, the London 2012 Olympic Organizing Committee, and will be managed directly by the New Zealand Olympic Committee. Olympic Travel Packages containing confirmed tickets for several prime events and quality accommodation are also for sale. Further information about these packages can be obtained through travel partners United Travel and Harvey World Travel. New Zealanders who revise their Phase I ticket orders will be given priority and customers are asked to contact their Harvey World Travel or United Travel consultant as soon as possible. For those customers that placed their order directly with Cartan Tours should contact info@cartanglobal.com. Revised orders will be processed on a first come first served basis while new orders are being accepted up until 30 September 2011. New customers should contact Harvey World Travel or United Travel and are invited to submit ticket applications. The London Olympic Games take place from July 27 2012 to August 12 2012.
