Four new sports have been approved for membership of the New Zealand Olympic Committee.
Climbing New Zealand, Karate New Zealand, Surfing New Zealand and the New Zealand Federation of Roller Sports were proposed and subsequently approved for membership following their inclusion on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games sports programme. Softball and Baseball were already full members.
Kereyn Smith said she was delighted to welcome the new sports to the New Zealand Olympic family. “The changes to the Olympic programme is fantastic and ensures the Olympic games remain relevant and inspiring to future generations of New Zealanders. While qualification is sure to be tough, we’re looking forward to working with a new athletes and sports as they aim to represent New Zealand at Tokyo 2020.”
