New Zealands Barry Maister to Present Olympic Bid City Reports New Zealand IOC Member Barry Maister will head to the 123rd IOC Session in Durban Sunday to present an evaluation report on the cities bidding for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Maister sits on the 2018 Olympic Winter Bid Evaluation Commission and has spent the past nine months working with Commission members to conduct site visits and analyse candidature files submitted by the candidate cities Annecy (France), Munich (Germany) and Pyongyang (South Korea). Voting to select the host city for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games will take place Thursday morning (eds NZT) immediately following the bid city presentations and the Evaluation Commissions final presentation. The host city is selected by the 115 IOC Members. Maister says the purpose of the presentation is to give IOC Members a final opportunity to examine the merits of the bid cities and to ask questions ahead of voting. Maister will be joined in making the presentation by IOC Members Gunilla Lindberg (Commission Chair, SWE) and Angela Ruggiero (ice hockey gold medallist, USA) The selection of a bid city shapes history, he said. Weve gone through a detailed process to assess the merits of each candidate city and have presented these findings to the IOC. It is now up to the 115 IOC members to make their decision and cast their vote. New Zealand Olympic triple medallist and Olympic Ambassador Barbara Kendall also looks likely to join Barry Maister as an IOC Member. Kendall was nominated by the IOC Executive Board in April. Kendall was an IOC member and athlete representative between 2005 2008 and most recently has lead the Oceania Athletes Commission. The vote for new IOC Members will take place on July 9 2011. Should Kendall be successful, New Zealand will have two IOC Members for the first time. Other matters on the agenda at the IOC Session include sports betting, match fixing and doping. The 123rd IOC Session takes place 4 9th July 2011.
