Barry Maister has been appointed to the newly established Entourage Commission at the IOC to address matters relating to the relationship between athletes and their coaches, agents and other support staff. The Commission is chaired by IOC Executive Board Member and Olympic pole vaulter Sergey Bubka and includes Sir Clive Woodward (current Director of Elite Performance at the British Olympic Association), Pat McQuaid (President of the UCI) and gold medal winning ice hockey player Angela Ruggiero (USA). "An athlete will not achieve their potential without the right support, said Maister. The Entourage Commission has come together to look at ways the athlete entourage can better enhance athlete performance. Its also about ensuring athletes are protected. The key output of the Commission for 2011 will be the development of a code of conduct to provide clear guidelines for those who have an impact on athlete performance this includes coaches and high performance staff, agents and commercial partners. The Commission was set-up following a recommendation by the Olympic Congress in Copenhagen last October. Maister joined the Commission for meetings in Lausanne throughout last week. Maister was appointed to the IOC in February 2010 and will stand down from his current role of New Zealand Olympic Committee Secretary General this January. Maister also sits on the IOC Bid Evaluation Committee and will be part of team in place to assess bid material ahead of the selection of the host city for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
