Today, LOCOG announced the route for the Olympic Games Cycling Time Trial, which will start and finish at Hampton Court Palace in south west London. The Time Trial is one of two Road Cycling events and involves competitors riding individually against the clock over a distance of 44km for men and 29km for women. Riders start at 90-second intervals and the one with the quickest time wins the gold medal. The event will take place on Day 5 of the Olympic Games on 1 August 2012.

The Time Trial is a free event for spectators and will not be ticketed. The course passes through the London Borough of Richmond, the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, Surrey and Elmbridge Borough.
