The match schedule for the preliminary rounds of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) hockey competition has been announced at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre.

The 10 competing nations for both men’s and women’s competitions are divided into two pools of five based on their FIH World Rankings.

Teams have been allocated in a snaking pattern from the top-seeded nation down to the 10th in order to evenly spread competing nations across both pools.

The New Zealand Men are joined in Pool A by trans-Tasman rivals Australia as well as Canada, South Africa and Scotland.

The New Zealand Women are included in Pool B along with Australia, Scotland, Canada and Ghana.

ABOUT HOCKEY AT THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Hockey was first included in the Commonwealth Games sports program at the 1998 edition of the Games in Kuala Lumpur and is classified as a core sport that must be included on the program of each Games.

Across both the men’s and women’s Commonwealth Games hockey competition, Australia is the most successful nation having won all but one of the gold medals on offer (women’s 2002).
