David Grevemberg has been appointed as the Chief Executive for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The role for Grevemberg includes being responsible for the Organising Committee for Glasgow 2014 and making sure planning for the Games is delivered on time, on budget and across all functioning aspects. Grevemberg, an international multi-sport games athlete, spectator and organiser, was appointed after a world-wide search was conducted for the best candidate. A total of 150 possible candidates were contacted throughout the process, which was conducted by Odgers Berndston, before it was cut down to a short list of just seven including Grevemberg. I am humbled by this opportunity to lead such an amazing team, driven by passion for sport and a commitment to bring what will be an outstanding Games to our great city of Glasgow and all of Scotland. Every day is a day closer to the Opening Ceremony, and another day we can't get back. We cannot afford to miss a beat and I am confident of leading this team and working with our Games partners to successfully achieve our goals, said Grevemberg. New Zealand will be attending the 2014 Commonwealth Games and are excited about the event. The rugby sevens team for New Zealand has dominated their event at the Games and claimed the last four gold medals up to 2010 but their biggest challenges in 2014 are likely to come from Australia, England and South Africa. The New Zealand netball team will also be looking to defend their title and will expecting some tough competition from their usual Australian rivals who have battled against New Zealand for all four previous gold medals that have been up for grabs. There will also be some exciting action from the New Zealand womens hockey team looking to keep up their recent bronze medal performance at the Champions Trophy event. They have also medalled in previous Commonwealth Games receiving silver in the Games at Delhi 2010. Other New Zealand teams to look out for at Glasgow 2014 will be in swimming, triathlon, athletics, cycling, lawn bowls, shooting and squash. Glasgow 2014 begins on 23 July and will include 17 sports over 11 days of competition.
