The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) disclosed its plans to have a full dress rehearsal test for the operations around the Torch Relay on April 20th. They rehearsal will take place on the route from Leicester to Peterborough, an 80 miles (approximately 129km) journey. The primary objective of this is to test the convoy, crew and communication procedures (such as timings, collection and drop off by the Torchbearers, route markings as well security operations) well in advance of the 70-day relay. The convoy will start in Leicester and travel through Quorn, Loughborough, Hoton, Wymeswold, Asfordby, Melton Mowbray, Langham, Oakham, Uppingham and Stamford, before reaching Peterborough. LOCOG Chair Sebastian Coe said: 'The dress rehearsal will give us the chance to test many of our operations around the Olympic Torch Relay. We are also looking forward to working with the 100 inspirational people who will play an essential role in helping us to test how we will operate during the Relay. The rehearsal will see participants from the Royal College of the Blind; Loughborough College; and Leicester, De Montfort, Loughborough and Northampton universities be involved. These participants will carry unlit Torches. With the Relay itself, everyone participating will have an inspirational story and will have their nomination supported by their place of study. Podium, the Further and Higher Education Unit for the 2012 Games, is working with the institutions to find the inspirational students, while local authorities will also nominate participants.
