New Zealand Commonwealth Games Team Chef de Mission Dave Currie is working with organizers to ensure New Zealands residential tower in the athletes village is ready as the 25th of September approaches.

While construction is complete the final touches are yet to be put on Tower 32 and the post-construction clean has not been completed satisfactorily.

Aspects of the village are very good, said Currie from India early this afternoon. The athlete recreational and training areas are outstanding and the dining hall is of a very high standard. We have all eaten there and it was good. In saying that, however, our tower needs a good clean before we can operationalise it.

Currie also commented that security around the village perimeter appears to be very robust and the mag and bag system for entrance to the village is now operational.  New Zealand security officials will continue to liaise with the organisers on all aspects of games security.

Currie will continue to focus on the village while colleagues are assessing venues. Ive been told that the venues appear to be operational and in pretty good shape. The unseasonably late monsoons mean there are still pools of water around and this is a focus for organisers. There is still some preparation work needed to be done on the main stadium.

The English team has indicated they are very satisfied with the athletes village. Currie explains that the three towers the English occupy were completed earlier than New Zealand's Tower 32 and as such have been satisfactorily tidied and cleaned.

The first athletes are set to come into the athletes village in Delhi on 25th September and Currie and his team are currently in Delhi to assess final preparations.
