New Zealand Olympic Team Chef de Mission Dave Currie has recently returned from London after attending test events that are part of the London Prepares series. The test events Currie attended included the Junior Rowing World Championships on the Olympic course at Eton Dorney, the ITU World Series Triathlon at Hyde Park and the Weymouth and Portland International Regatta. The test events are being used to test crucial aspects of its Game-time operations and helping to build public excitement by giving them a chance to see world class athletes perform at Olympic venues. Currie was impressed by all the test event venues he visited saying that they all operated well and said that Hyde Park was not only an amazing venue in itself but its location in the centre of London makes it very exciting. The test events all went well and the things that they were looking to achieve, we think they have achieved, Currie said. He also added that its the most impressive Organising Committee that Ive dealt with in the Games that Ive been involved with. While in London Currie also visited the Olympic Village saying the detail and quality was amazing and is pleased with its construction progress. The impressive thing is, is that its going to be handed over with eight months to go, which is unprecedented really, said Currie. A highlight was also that the location of so many key venues within one kilometre of the athletes village will make life easy for athletes, he said. Currie said the Games is going to be good for spectators that can get over there too as the public transport system and venues are looking good and for those who cant make it they can easily follow the great coverage of the Games on SKY. With just under one year to go, New Zealand athletes and spectators alike can look forward to an exciting and positive Olympic Games, he said. Currie says his priority now is to ensure that we understand what athletes needs are and for them to understand, and for us to pass on, all our knowledge from London. He said he wants athletes to be able to go over prepared and there be no surprises for them when they get there.
