After a busy day of travel and a good nights sleep, today the members of the New Zealand Youth Commonwealth Games team explored their surroundings in the beautiful Isle of Man. The green fields and flocks of sheep reminded many of the athletes of home. The athletes visited their venues using the Games transport double-decker buses and snuck in a hard training session (or two!). All were very impressed and excited by their competition facilities. The IOM locals were very helpful and friendly, and one athlete got extra help as his name had Manx ancestry, to which he nodded in agreement! Whether or not this was the case cannot be confirmed. The Canadian team was also spotted in the same hotel as the kiwis, 70 members strong! The Kiwiana themed team lounge was set up, and the athletes spent time socialising in this room after an amazing dinner. Countless games of Wii sports were played (and new champions made) before a team meeting. After dinner he team sung Happy Birthday to Gymnastics coach Alexandra Koudinova. The cake eating session was followed by haka practice led by boxer Corey and his father, David Miles. The team was loud and proud attracting few guests watching on! The haka will be used to celebrate outstanding achievements of the young athletes during the Games. Every athlete was in bed before 9pm to recharge their batteries for a good day of training for tomorrow!
