Olympic cyclist Cath Cheatley (Beijing 2008) has graduated with a UCI Coaching Diploma following an intensive four-week programme at the World Cycling Centre in Switzerland.

One of few female coaches in the sport of cycling at this level in New Zealand, Cheatley is now looking to take a cycling team from development right through to Olympic success.

Cheatley, who UCI cited as one of the strongest candidates they'd had through the course, said the programme was tough, but rewarding.

"It was an intense, challenging and intensive four weeks," she said.

"But thank you to the Aspiring Women Olympic Leaders Programme for encouraging me and supporting me to chase this.

Cheatley is part of the New Zealand Olympic Committees Aspiring Women Olympic Leaders programme which supports and provides scholarships to retired female athletes as they transition from sport to a career off the field of play.

Sarah Cowley (athletics), Niniwa Roberts (hockey) and Michelle Hollands (hockey), among others, are also benefitting from the initiative.
