Chef de Mission Dave Currie departs for London this evening ahead of his first site visit to the Olympic Host City. Top of the agenda for Currie and his team understanding the environment to ensure there are no surprises for athletes at games time. Were all about performance, said Currie. This site visit is about the operations and logistics of the London Olympic Games and developing critical relationships with organisers. Our role is to provide an environment that enables athletes to deliver their potential. There can be no surprises. Currie and his team that includes New Zealand Olympic Committee and SPARC staff will meet with heads of key functional areas including accommodation, transport, venue management and ticketing. They will also visit the London, Weymouth and Eaton Dorney venues and the three main village sites where New Zealand athletes will be located. The team will also visit the location of New Zealand House where New Zealanders will gather to share their pride in New Zealand during the Olympic Games. Our London campaign is about making New Zealanders proud and asking them to inspire our team. At London during the Olympic Games well be setting up opportunities for Kiwis to share their pride with our athletes. A second site visit will take place in August, coinciding with a number of test events hosted by the London Organisers. Currie and his team will then head back to London again in February for a final assessment of preparations. The London Olympic Games will take place July 27 August 12 2012. New Zealand will field a team of approximately 190 athletes in 17 sports. Team selections will take place from late 2011 through until June 2012. - ends - For further information contact: New Zealand Olympic Committee Ashley Abbott Communications Manager M: 021 552 021 E: Ashley@olympic.org.nz www.nz2012.com
