Cadbury, in association with the New Zealand Commonwealth Games Federation, is auctioning off three unique souvenir 2010 Commonwealth Games bags to raise money for the Canterbury Earthquake relief fund.

Cadbury New Zealand Managing Director, Matthew Oldham, says, In July and August this year, we toured the country, inviting all of New Zealand to leave their messages of support for our Commonwealth Games team on giant billboards that were turned into bags for our athletes to carry with them in Delhi.

When the bags were made up for all 194 of our New Zealand athletes, we found out we had some bags left over which didnt include any written messages of support from the public but did feature the great art created by some of the contributing artists on the Billboards to Bags tour. We thought it would be fantastic to give the New Zealand public a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get their hands on these bags and raise money for a very worthy cause by putting them up for auction on Trade Me.

The bags feature art by two up-and-coming New Zealand artists; two bags feature art by graffiti art collective Disruptiv, whose designs featured on the double-sided billboard at the Queen Street launch event; and one bag features art by Joshua Wetere Paki, a talented young Auckland artist whose work adorned the billboard created at Sylvia Park. Each of the bags will be personally inscribed to the winning bidders by some of the 2010 Commonwealth Games athletes on their return from Delhi, and will also include a gift pack of Cadbury chocolate.

Matthew Oldham adds, As Official Fundraiser to the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team, weve been closely involved in helping our athletes raise money for their Games preparations. However in talking with the Commonwealth Games Federation and the artists involved in the creation of these bags, we all agreed we wanted the funds raised from the auction of these bags to go towards helping the people of Canterbury whove been affected by the earthquake.

Terry Daly, Commercial Director of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, says, The amazing support New Zealand has shown our Commonwealth Games team through the thousands and thousands of messages left for our athletes on the Cadbury billboards has been nothing short of incredible. We hope Kiwis will really get behind the auctions of these bags theyre truly a one-of-a-kind, collectors edition souvenir of the Games and of course its supporting a very worthy cause.

To bid for the three bags, Kiwis can simply go to www.trademe.co.nz and search for cadbury commonwealth bags. The three auctions will close on Sunday 17 October. All money raised will go to directly to the Salvation Army Canterbury Earthquake Appeal.
