The men's cycling team pursuiters won New Zealands first medal of the Commonwealth Games at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome today.

The pursuit team - Dylan Kennett, Piet Bulling, Marc Ryan and Shane Archbold were extremely disappointed not to be racing for gold and destroyed the Canadians in the bronze medal race.

Though the race is set down for 4000m, it ends if one team laps the other. By the halfway point the New Zealanders had lapped Canada and secured the bronze medal.

Coach Dayle Cheatley was pleased his team had at least put together a good race against the Canadians.

After Australia and England had pushed the New Zealanders into third in the qualifying round, he had said: We came here aiming to be in the ride-off for the gold, so it is disappointing.
