New Zealands lawn bowlers got among the medals at the Commonwealth Games today.

With Jo Edwards about to contest the gold medal in the womens singles, the New Zealand womens four of Selina Goddard, Amy McIlroy, Val Smith and Mandy Boyd bounced back from their 13-11 morning loss to Malaysia to secure the bronze medal by beating Scotland 21-15.

It was another tight match 9-9 after eight closely contested ends but the New Zealanders then broke clear.

The Scots, urged on by some strong home support, inched their way back and going into the final end trailed by just one. They looked to have sealed the match until a brilliant final bowl by skip Boyd turned the end New Zealands way.

It was the first medal of the games won by New Zealand away from the Velodrome and judo hall, all the more exciting with Edwards to follow.
