The New Zealand men’s basketball team opened their Commonwealth Games campaign with a powerful 110-65 win over Nigeria.

Long before the end the Nigerians looked as if they were merely waiting for the clock to wind down.

New Zealand led 24-15 after the first quarter, 50-35 at halftime and 81-43 at the three-quarters.

All 12 of the New Zealand squad got good game time and the points scoring was evenly split among Thomas Abercrombie, Robert Loe, Ethan Rusbatch, Jordan Ngatai and Finn Delany. Abercrombie hit four from six from the three-point zone. He’ll be wanting to be just as accurate when the New Zealanders strike tougher games later in the tournament.

The New Zealand men have a testing encounter with Australia on Saturday, April 7, and will be hoping the workout against Nigeria was enough preparation.
