The IAAF World Championships in Athletics have finished in Daegu, South Korea with mixed results for Kiwi competitors. Olympic Gold Medallist, Valerie Adams claimed her third consecutive world title when she won a gold medal for her record breaking throw in the shot put of 21.24 metres. Olympic silver medallist, Nick Willis made it through to the 1500m semi-finals confidently but just managed to qualify for the final. The first five of each semi were put through automatically but Willis came in seventh and was fortunate to be added to the final after being the fastest of the remaining runners. Willis finished 12th in the final. Jake Robertson was added to the finals of the 5000m event after only getting 12th in the heats when he needed a fifth. The decision to add him came when he showed judges he had been pushed during his race which had caused him to take a heavy fall. Robertson competed in the final with an injured knee from the fall and finished 16th. London Scholarship Holder Nikki Hamblin narrowly missed out on making the semi-finals for the 800m and had a disappointing fall in the 1500m only a few days before. Stuart Farquhar made it to the final in javelin with a throw of 82.10m and was the best from the B preliminary group. Farquhar was unable to deliver the same performance in the finals though with his best attempt at 78.99m. The gold medal throw was 86.27m.
