Lisa Carrington K-1 - 200m - Women, K-2 - 500m - Women

Lisa comes from New Zealand’s sunny Bay of Plenty and now lives, trains and studies in Auckland. She was introduced to kayaking by her father who convinced her to attend a development camp in Rotorua run by New Zealand Olympic legend Ian Ferguson. Lisa directly qualified for the K1 200m Olympic boat and athlete quota at the 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, she also became New Zealand’s first World Champion in the sport. At the same regatta Lisa and partner Erin Taylor qualified their boat and athlete quota for the K2 500m. This was Lisa’s first Olympic Games where she won New Zealand's sixth gold medal of the Games.

Steven Ferguson K-2 - 1000m - Men

Steven is the son of New Zealand’s most medalled Olympic athlete, Ian Ferguson, so had a paddle in his hands at an early age. The London Olympic Games will be his fourth Olympic Games after first competing as a swimmer at Sydney 2000 before changing codes to for Athens in 2004 where he made the finals in the men’s K2 1000 with Ben Fouhy. Steve’s top Olympic result to date is 5th at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in the K2 1000m. Steve qualified the K2 1000m Olympic boat and athlete quotas with partner Darryl Fitzgerald at the Oceania Championships. The two went on to place 7th in the final of the mens double at the London 2012 Games.

Darryl Fitzgerald K-2 - 1000m - Men

Darryl started kayaking as winter training for Surf ski paddling and
hasn’t looked back. He trains at Poverty Bay Kayak Club, which is headed
by New Zealand Olympic medallist Alan Thompson. The London Olympics
is Darryl’s first Games experience. Darryl qualified the K2 1000m
Olympic boat and athlete quotas with partner Steve Ferguson at the
Oceania Championships. The two then went on to place 7th in the final of the mens double at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Ben Fouhy K-1 - 1000m - Men

Ben came to sprint kayaking through multi-sport and the related
paddling discipline marathon kayaking. He is currently New Zealand most
successful competing kayaking having been a world champion, World Cup
Winner, world record holder and Olympic silver medallist in Athens in
2004. The London Olympics are his third appearance at the Games. Ben
qualified the K1 1000m Olympic boat and athlete quota at the Oceania
Championships. He placed 6th in the B final at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Teneale Hatton K-1 - 500m - Women

Teneale was born on the Mainland, New Zealand but now resides on the sunny North Shore, Auckland and is currently studying at the University of Auckland. She was introduced to kayaking by her Surf Life Saving coach. Teneale recently qualified the K1 500m Olympic boat and athlete quota at the Oceania Championships and is looking to build on this success at the World Cups. Teneale finished 19th at last year’s World Championships, she has demonstrated significant recent improvement and performed strongly at the World Cups in Europe. She has beaten five of the top sixteen athletes at least once this season and is now ranked twelfth on the Olympic tables. She is a talented athlete showing fast improvement and tracking for big future in the sport. London was Teneale's first Olympic Games. She placed 7th in the B final.

Erin Taylor K-2 - 500m - Women

Erin is born and bred on the North Shore, Auckland. Erin came to kayaking through surf lifesaving. Erin was the first woman to compete for New Zealand at an Olympic Games in the New Zealand Olympic Canoe/Kayak – Flatwater Team after first competing in Beijing in 2008. London is her second Olympics. Erin directly qualified the K2 500m Olympic boat and athlete quota at the 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Champions with her partner Lisa Carrington. The pair finished 7th in the A final at the London 2012 Games.
