It has been a tough couple of weeks on and off the pitch for the squad. As of mid April the entire squad has centralised in Auckland as our program has stepped up a notch. Trainings are becoming more and more intense as we try to get as much out of them each time. We have had three players return form playing club hockey in Holland. It's great to have them back training with us as they bring back a few different ideas and approaches with them.

I have been a bit unlucky in the injury department and had a couple of knocks which put me out for a couple of weeks but am back into it now and going well. Were lucky to have such awesome people and facilities in place that allow for quick recoveries from most injuries.

Getting back into training after a mini break has been awesome. I struggled watching from the sidelines so am enjoying getting stuck into everything. Over the next week the squad will be named for Azlan Shah, which is a tournament in Malaysia. This will be a crucial part of our preparation for London as six of the seven teams there will be at the Olympics. This will be a great chance to see how the things we have been working on in training are coming along and also a good chance to try and gain an edge over some of the teams we will compete against in London.

We have had some awesome support in the build up with the likes of Fonterra providing us with all the dairy products we need, Watties and Mother Earth have also come on board. It is such a boost for us amateur athletes to get support from companies such as these. Nutrition is such a huge factor in us preparing as well as we can for each training session.

I will fill you in more about Azlan Shah in the next blog as the team leaves in two and a half weeks for that so will be exciting times and hopefully there are no more injuries to report in the next blog….touchwood.
