I’m back into heavy training now after finishing my first competitive meet since I came to the US. I’m here for an eight-week stint training with USA collegiate champions Cal State Berkley, in San Francisco.
Thanks to a scholarship from the NZOC I was able to fund my way here and I’m hoping this will put me on the right track to London. The training has been really intense and it’s a fantastic challenge which I hope will pay off for me.
It took a bit of time to settle but it was good to get my first competition under my belt, and I managed to come away with a victory in the 100m backstroke.
Now we’re leading into the Santa Clara Grand Prix on the 16-18 June, where I will be competing with my home training squad and racing against some of the biggest names in the sport.
