Since my last blog a lot has been happening in the hockey world. Both the Men's and Women's Black Sticks sides for the London 2012 Olympics have been named and I was lucky enough to be part of the 16 heading to London in the NZ Olympic Hockey Team. It is a huge honour and I'm proud to be selected to represent our awesome country and one that I can't wait to get stuck into. It has been a pretty surreal past week, being selected to play in the biggest sporting event in the world is something that is both exciting and also quite nerve racking.
Before the selection took place we were competing in Malaysia at the Azlan Shah Cup which takes place annually. We were tracking along pretty nicely in when I last sent out a blog with three wins from three games. I'm happy to report back that we ended up winning the tournament. This was the first time NZ has won the tournament having competed in it for a number of years.
This was an awesome build up event for us as the tournament format fitted nicely into our Olympic campaign. We are currently in Australia preparing to play the Kookaburras in a three test series in Cairns. It is quite nice here, the weather is sitting around the mid 20 degree mark. We are all enjoying a bit of time by the pool and training in the sun is a lot nicer than the cold weather we left behind in NZ.
I'll send through another blog with some reports from our matches with Australia, hopefully we can upset the world number one team a couple of times and come home with a series win!!
