The World Championships in Shanghai are completed and it was an all-around great meet for the New Zealand team. Lauren Boyle was the stand out performer making two individual finals in the 400m and 800m freestyle and also played a big role in helping the woman's 4x200m freestyle making the final. The event also saw other great performances throughout the team.
I also just raced at the New Zealand Short Course Championships where I saw some promising young talent step up and show that they are still progressing through the ranks. Hopefully we will see some of those kids in the finals at Opens early next year that will double as an Olympic Qualifier. But on the senior side, great performance from Steven Kent in winning the 100m and 200m freestyle events; looking good for the men’s 4x200m freestyle. Also, great performances from the small contingent that returned from The World Champs with Sophia putting worlds behind her and breaking a number of age group records and a NZ open record. Penelope Marshall won the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyles, continuing her form through the week and last but not least Dylan Dunlop-Barrett won the 400m Freestyle title.
I am now back home from my training stint in The USA at the University of California where I learnt a lot of things that will help me develop through till London. It was a great learning experience and I also plan on re visiting California for another training stint next year.
