With the Champions Trophy just around the corner training has stepped up a few gears. All the boys realise the importance of this tournament and to have it on home soil makes it easy to train a little harder, run a bit longer and push ourselves further in the hope that come December 2nd we are ready to take on the World’s best teams!
Over the last week we have had the out of town boys join us in Auckland and we have upped our training volumes both in the gym and on the pitch. We have another hard week of training ahead before we head to the Hawkes Bay for our Olympic induction weekend, I think that by Friday we will welcome the time off over the weekend and enjoy a bit of time to relax and soak in everything the Hawkes Bay has to offer.
In the lead up to Champions Trophy we have warm up games against Spain and England. Both these teams are on the other side of the draw so are ideal for us to play going into the tournament. Playing these games is great for our preparation as it identifies areas that we need to work on and where gains can be made.
We have a tough draw with Germany, Holland and Korea in our pool, but we are confident that we have the skills to manage these teams. We are currently doing some workshops to make sure that we are aware of each teams strengths and weaknesses. This is so that when we play them we know exactly what our roles and responsibilites are.
We are hoping for some huge home support when the tournament gets started so make sure you get to www.ticketmaster.co.nz and get your tickets for what will be the best week of hockey NZ has ever seen!
