Natalie was just 16 years of age when she won a gold medal in the 100m backstroke at the World Youth Championships in Rio de Janeiro in 2006. Two years later she claimed a medal at the FINA World Cup and competed for New Zealand at the Pan Pacific Championships in 2010.

Natalie competed at the Delhi 2010 Commomwealth Games in four swimming events. Her best event being the 200m individual medley where she placed fourth, just missing a medal by a fingertip but setting a New Zealand record in the process.
