Rio 2016 was officially be Zoe's first Olympic Games - she previously attended the 2012 London Olympic Games as a reserve.

Zoe and crewmate Eve Macfarlane were the reigning world champions going into the Rio Games, having won gold at the 2015 World Rowing Championships. She is a two time world champion in the women's double having also won gold in the double scull at the 2014 World Rowing Championships with Fiona Bourke.
