Glasgow 2014 was the second Commonwealth Games for Sam, one that made Sam the most decorated New Zealand athlete at the Games. He won gold in both the Team and Individual Sprint races, then proceeded to win silver in the Keirin. 

Sam took home silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, won gold at the 2009 Sydney Youth Olympic Festival and across three events at the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championship.
