Glasgow 2014 was the second Commonwealth Games for Simon. "Rhino," as he is known, took silver in the 1km time trial.

The Manawatu rider has been competing and succeeding at an international level since 2010, when he won bronze at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.

Simon competed at the London Olympic Games, where he placed 3rdin a photo finish. In 2012, Simon placed 3rd at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships and 3rd again at the Track Cycling World Championship in Colombia in 2014.


 Simon also competed for Emirates Team New Zealand in 2015; he was one of the original "cyclors" that helped develop the revolutionary boat and was a huge asset to the team that won the 2017 America's Cup for Team New Zealand.
