Patrick Mailata made his Commonwealth Games debut in 2014 at Glasgow in the super heavy weight division at just nineteen years of age.

Four years on, Mailata has had a strong build up to Gold Coast, representing New Zealand at the AIBA World Championships in 2015, the AIBA 2016 Olympic qualifying events, Oceania Championships and the World Series of Boxing where he currently is retained by the British Lionhearts franchise.

In 2017 Mailata won silver at the Oceania Championships in Brisbane Australia and is New Zealand's top ranked 91+kg boxer and is ranked fifth in the Commonwealth.

Alongside team mate David Nyika, Patrick has also been training at the UK Institute of Sport ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Mailata is 23 years old and of Samoan descent.
