Swimmer Lewis Clareburt swam the race of his life to pick up bronze in the men's 400m individual medley at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The 18 year old smashed his personal best by four seconds to post a stunning time of 4:14.42.

The podium followed a standout year for Clareburt who won three golds and four silver medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.

Clareburt also won eight gold medals at the 2017 New Zealand Age Group Championships.

He is a member of the surf lifesaving New Zealand Black Fins team.
