New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association in 1934. Amos was Chef de Mission to the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. He retired in 1950 and remains the only New Zealander to have received the Olympic Diploma of Merit (first presented in 1905 and discontinued in 1974). This distinction was granted to him upon leaving the post of Secretary-General of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association in 1950. Harry died in 1958 at the age of 83.
