Gordon has been coaching the national team since 1994 and in that time New Zealand has won the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Argentina, gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and 2002 and its sixth IRB Sevens world title in 2005. His trained eye for talent has seen many of the country’s top All Blacks first cut their teeth in the Sevens game. Previously, Gordon coached Bay of Plenty from 1996-2002. As a player he was a member of the first New Zealand Sevens side at the 1983 Hong Kong Sevens, played 81 games for Bay of Plenty from 1977-1982 and  1984-1986 and played 14 games for Waikato in 1983.
