Doreen Porter was a member of the Western Suburbs Athletic & Harrier Club who went on to represent New Zealand at both the Perth 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games and the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games.

An outstanding sprinter, Doreen claimed the silver medal in the 100 yeards in Perth together with a bronze medal for the 4 x 110 yard relay team. 

At the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, Doreen finished the 100 metres in the quarter final, and then an even better results for her 200 metres finishing in the semi final. 

Doreen won the following New Zealand titles:
100 yards 1961, 1962, 1964.
220 yards 1961, 1962, 1964.
